John Frederick Ranschaert

John Frederick Ranschaert, 48, a retired South Bend police officer, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday in his home at 309 42nd Ave. N., St. Petersburg, Fla., after a lengthy illness.
He retired from the police force on Feb. 4, 1961, after 22 years of service. He moved to Florida in 1961. Mr. Ranschaert was born in South Bend on May 5, 1915, and married Eileen Gertrude Lavo here on Nov. 23, 1936.
Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, John F. Jr., at home; three daughters, Mrs. Joseph Rich, St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Henry Beaver and Mrs. Audine M. Manuel, both of South Bend; five grandchildren and two brothers, Maurice and August, both of South Bend.
The body will be brought to the Orvis Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Very Rev. Msgr. Elmer G. Peterson, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Orban, Cornelius Nicholas, J. Charles Dutrieux, Albert Pope, Donald A. Cornelis and Edward L. Bergan.
