Raymond E. Pianowski

Raymond, E. "Pine" Pianowski, 82, of Niles, Mich., passed away after a short illness at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Pianowski was the former owner of the Sign Art Company of South Bend, Ind., started in November 1945, doing signs and pictorial painting. In 1976 he went into partnership with Scottie McKim under Scottie's Custom Signs. In 1987 Raymond was awarded a life membership gold card from the International Brotherhood of painters and allied trades. He also received a gold watch and a gold member plaque.

He was born on Oct. 30, 1915, in South Bend, the son of the late Joseph and Stella Pianowski. On Sept. 7, 1940, in South Bend, he married Eleanor J. Ziolkowski. She died March 11, 1979.

On Sept. 29, 1984, he married Eleanor G. Samolczyk. Surviving with his wife are two stepsons, Ronald E. Samolczyk of Timbo, Ariz., and James Samolczyk, Sr., of Niles. He leaves two sisters, Harriet Klawinski and Martha Wozniak, and a brother, Arthur,, Ray was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph on Jan. 29, 1994; and by a 'sister, 'Alice Pluta on Aug. 6, 1994. He leaves four stepgrandchildren who he loved, Tina Mueller, James Samolczyk, Jr., Scott Samolczyk and Tracie Kuriata; and three lovely stepgreat-grandchildren, Christopher and Katelyn Mueller and Nichole Samolczyk. He also leaves all his loving nieces and nephews, Mary Pluta, Mary Alice Chmielowiec, Sister Francisca Richey, the Pluta boys, Thomas, Paul, Michael, George, James and Joe of Chandler, Ariz., and Thomas Klawinski, Michael Pianowski and Timothy Pianowski.

Raymond was a lifelong member of St. Hedwig Parish and Holy Name Society, Country Club, and a charter member and one of the original that started the Z.B. Conservation Club. He was member of the Polish Falcons America Nest 80 where he the proud recipient of the of Honor Silver Cross.

A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 1998, in St. Hedwig Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Drive, where a parish Rosary be recited at 6 p.m., followed Legion of Honor Service
