Arthur J. O'Neill

Arthur J. O'Neill, 82, of Goleta, Calif., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Beverly LaCumbre Convalescent Hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif., after an extended illness. Mr. O'Neill was born Feb. 15, 1915 to Edward and Elizabeth O'Neill and was the last living child of nine children.
In 1940 he married the former Marion Weber, who preceded him in death Dec. 3, 1975 in South Bend.
In 1977 Mr. O'Neill married the former Ruth Cohn who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Maureen and her husband, Thomas Hoyer of Columbia, Md., and Carol I Baye of Austin, Texas; two sons, Patrick and his wife, Jeanine, O'Neill of Austin, Texas, and Gene and his wife, Jill, Cohn of San Francisco, Calif; and three grandchildren.
Mr. O'Neill was a lifelong employee of the Bendix Corp. in South Bend. He was a graduate of Central High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1943 to 1945.
A Memorial Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, in St. Matthew Cathedral with the Most Rev. Joseph R. Crowley officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Arthur's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
