Alton B. Nicholls

Alton B. Nicholls, 83, of April Altgeld Street, South Bend, Ind., died lowing an illness at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday Jan. 1, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Nicholls was born on April 19, 1916, in Springfield, Mass., to Percy S. and Jane (Lea) Nichols and had lived in South Bend most of his life.

On Aug. 7, 1937, in South Bend, he married Jane Hoover, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Gary Nicholls of South Bend.

Mr. Nicholls retired from Nicholls Printery in 1998 after 66 years. as the owner-operator. He was a longtime member of the Izaak Walton League, and was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 8, in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Avenue, with Rev. David Morrow officiating. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory. There will be no visitation. The Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, is handling arrangements.
