Louis “Turf” Meykel

Louis “Turf” Meykel, 91, of South Bend, IN, passed away following an illness at 3:45 p.m.Friday, August 4, 2006, in his home. He was born on October 8, 1914, to the late Julius and Esther (Remete) Meykel in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Louis was a graduate from Central High School and Acme Tool and Die School. Mr.Meykel was retired from Holbert Engineering Corporation after 20 years of employment.

On May 18, 1968, he married Edna L.“Eadie” (Sears) Wishing at St.John the Baptist Church in South Bend, IN. She survives. Along with his loving wife of 38 years, he is survived by one daughter, Kathleen (Kevin) Reasor of South Bend, IN; one stepson, Michael J. Wishing of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Kyle Reasor, Lindsay Reasor and Nathan Reasor, all of South Bend, IN;and two great- grandchildren, Michael Przygoda and Jaiden Reasor, both of South Bend, IN.

Mr. Meykel was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, was a member of the former Owls Club, a former member of the Elks BPOE No. 235 Club, an over 50-year member of St.Joseph Lodge No.45 F&AM, and member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, 32nd degree Mason. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs baseball and Notre Dame fan.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m.Wednesday, August 9, 2006, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m.Wednesday, August 9, 2006, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, with Rev.Terry McBride officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1836 N.Portage Ave., South Bend, IN 46616;or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637
