In Memory
Martha Bernice (McCuen) Fogle
MARTHA BERNICE McCUEN FOGLE, 95 of Maranatha Village, Sebring, FL went home to be with her Savior and Lord Whom she loved and served, on March 27, 2012 at the Oaks at Avon Park, FL. She was born in Nappanee, IN on July 28, 1916 to Harold O. and Bernice O. Miller McCuen. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age, and loved and served Him from then on.
She married Lester Fogle in 1937 and , for their honeymoon, boarded a stinky freighter and traveled across the ocean to the continent of Africa, where together they served as missionaries under Baptist Mid-Missions for over 40 years. This was primitive Africa - Chad and Central African Republic – but they served Christ diligently and faithfully, giving Him and the ministry top priority in their lives. Martha was a natural linguist, recognizing that the Sango language was a tonal language, and she wrote up a Sango/English dictionary and placed the proper tones above every syllable. She was also a talented musician – she was an accomplished pianist, organist, and vocalist, blessing many people with her abilities, even at 95 years old. Though she was legally deaf and legally blind, Martha took on the ministry of prayer, and what a prayer warrior she was! How we will miss her, her prayers and her sweet spirit. Martha never stopped loving and serving her beloved Savior.
Martha was pre-deceased by her husband Lester, two grandchildren and six siblings.
She has left a Godly legacy to her seven children: Lois (Jerry) Wilson, Boynton Beach, FL; Phil (Betty), Largo, FL; Maribeth (Andy) Smith, Avon Park, FL; Tim (Vicki), Des Moines, IA; Tom (Penny), Des Moines, IA; Larry (Sallie), Roanoke, VA; Dale (and fiancée Debbie), Garland, TX; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; tow sisters, Marguerite Monroe and Esther Michels both of South Bend, IN; and brother, Ed McCuen, Wakarusa, IN.
A celebration of Martha's Christ –filled life will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church, Maranatha Village in Sebring 11:00 am, Saturday, March 31, 2012 with visitation at 10:00 am, with Pastor Church Pausley, of Bethany Baptist Church; Rev.
