COL Robert Lee Matthews

Robert L. Matthews, 82, of Fairfield, OH., died at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield on June 22, 1998. He was born in South Bend, IN., April 25, 1916, the son of Franklin and Lee Donna (Kerschner) Matthews. 

He received his education in the South Bend public schools and was a graduate of Purdue University. He was married to Agnes Erickson on Nov. 25, 1939 in South Bend, IN. He was a 22 year veteran and a retired Colonel of the United States Air Force. He then was employed for 12 years at the General Electric Co.. He was an avid golfer. 

Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Agnes and his daughter, Mary Beth Emrick of Fairfield, OH. He was preceded in deaty by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Wiggins and Alice Kizer; a brother, Milo Matthews. 

He donated his body to the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. Memorial services will be held at the Montgomery Community Baptist Church Sunday.
