Paul Maehler, in deep despondency over the death of his wife on April 11 last, died Monday morning of a self inflicted bullet wound, the shooting taking place near the grave of his wife in Prospect Hill cemetery about five o'clock Sunday evening,

Mr. Machler visited the grave of his wife as frequently as he could, and continued to brood over her death. He had driven to the cemetery Sunday af!ternoon, taking with him a dress which had been his wife's, and a Bible. He and parked his car off the driveway and, before shooting himself, crossed the drive to spot near the soldiers' lot, where he shot himself with a .32 cal. revolver, the bullet passing through his body near the heart.

Mr. and Mrs. L. D Rench, driving over the bill from the north, did not hear the shot but saw him fall, and as they neared him, Mr. Rench saw what had taken place and drove hurriedly to the Byrnes oil station, where he telephoned Sheriff Burch.

Mr. Burch others responded very promptly and found Mr. Maehler still conscious. He asked that they not call a doctor, but let him go to his loved one. No physician was available in town at the time and he was rushed to Lee Hospital in Dowaglac, where he died at nine o'clock Monday morning.

He was not known to these who found him, but was recognized by Monte Holcomb when he arrived with the ambulance.

Funeral services were conducted at the Connelly funeral home al 2:30, Wednesday afternoon, and burial was beside his wife in Prospect Hill cemetery. Deceased was a son of Arthur and Helen (Zimmerman) Maehler of Oak Park, Ill., and was born in Chicago, Nov. 11, 1914. For several years the family have maintained a summer home at Park Shore, Diamond lake, and here he met and married Miss Gladys Mohney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mohuey of Cassopolis. They lived in Oak Park, where she died In April.

He is survived by a son, Paul Allen Maehler, aged 14 months, and by his parents and one brother, Arthur.
