SYLVESTER E. KORPAL

July 5, 1916 - Nov. 20, 2009 SOUTH BEND - Sylvester E. Korpal, 93, of Greenville, SC, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:58 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2009 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC.

He was born on July 5, 1916 to the late Lott and Celia (Hosinski) Korpal in South Bend, IN, and lived in South Bend his whole life, until moving to Greenville in 2007.

Along with his parents; one sister, Helen Mackowski; and two brothers, Clem and Al Korpal also preceded him in death.

Mr. Korpal retired in 1981 from Wheelabrator Corporation, after 16 years of employment. He graduated in 1934 from Central High School in South Bend.

He was married to Vera Jane Harper, who preceded him in death on August 25, 1997.

Sylvester is survived by his daughter, Christy (Bill) Squadroni of Greenville, SC.

Mr. Korpal was a U.S. Army Veteran o f World War II. He was a former member of St. Joseph Parish in South Bend; a member of American Legion Post #284 and Disabled American Veterans White Eagle Chapter #29.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, with Rev. John Patrick Riley, C.S.C. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by American Legion Post #284. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Joseph Catholic Church, 226 N.
