Vigil services for Alfred A. Howard  of Penn Valley will be in Santa Clara Mortuary, Santa Clara. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at St. Clare's Church, 725 St., in Santa Clara. Burial will be Clara Mission Cemetery.

Mr. Howard died Monday in Folsom. He was 83.

He was born in Pawnee, Ill. and was a longtime resident of Santa Clara before he retired to Penn Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Helen C. Howard, children, Judy Christopoulos, Mary Carbon, Philip J., and Alfred Stephen Howard; stepchildren, Jim, Jerry, and Nancy Oller; sister Ruth Dawes; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren
