DOROTHY L. (HENDERSON) PHILLIPS

SOUTH BEND - Dorothy L. Phillips, 93, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Dorothy was born on January 23, 1916, in South Bend, to Lee C. and Cora E. (Gilliat) Henderson.

She retired from Monarch Cleaners in 1984 and had previously been employed with the former Bendix Corporation, Studebaker Car Company and Oliver Plow.

On January 18, 1941, in Rochester, Indiana, Dorothy married Frank J. Phillips, who preceded her in death on July 17, 1974. Dorothy is survived by a stepdaughter, Nancy Wilkinson of Green Valley, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.

In her earlier days Dorothy loved taking their boat out on Lake Michigan, and also going out dancing with her husband. She was on a bowling league and loved spending time with her friends. She enjoyed reading, watching Tiger Woods play golf, and Notre Dame football.

She graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1934.

Dorothy had a warm heart and everyone loved her. She will be greatly missed by Gina (Van) McCray, Sue (Dave) Stickler and Lori (Bob) Lidell, her three great-nieces; and her best friends, Helen Nelson and Delores Bankowski.
