William Robert Hawley

William Robert Hawley died Saturday. He was born on July 21, 1916 in Lima, Ohio to Karl O. &  Marion (Pattison) Hawley. Mr. Hawley received his Masters Degree from Indiana University in 1939.

He served during WWII in the 490th Bomb Squadron, as part of the Burma Bridge Busters. He held the rank of Major.

Mr. Hawley married Jane Walterhouse of Ladoga in 1942. She died in 2001.

He taught physics at Arsenal Technical High School, Cono Christian School and North Putnam High School before retiring in 1978. He was State President of the Sons of the American Revolution, and commander of American Legion Post #153 in Indianapolis having received his 50 year certificate in July 2002. Mr. Hawley was an ordained elder in the Bible Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a brother, K. Richard Hawley, sons David P. Hawley and William Waterhouse Hawley, Daughter Druscilla Carroll, and three grandsons, Patrick Bryant, Samuel Stewart and John Louis Hawley.

His eldest son, John Harrison Hawley, died in Vietnam in 1967.

Graveside services will be held at Ladoga Cemetery at Ladoga IN. on Saturday August 9, 2003 at 2:15 P.M. Friends may greet the family at Servies &  Morgan Funeral Home at 203 N. Washington, St., Ladoga, IN. from noon to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday before services Crawfordsville American Legion will conduct the Military Honors.

Memorial may be made to the American Legion.
