Gustave Daniel "Gus" Friesem

Gustave D. "Gus" Friesem, 90, died Jan. 21 in his Highland Park home.

His wife, Doris Bloom, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Ellen (Michael) Trujillo of Colorado and Ann August of Glenview; a sister-in-law, Sally Bloom Schottenfels; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and his friend, Audrey Miller.

Mr. Friesem was the president of Midwest Marko Inc., a business he started with his father, Danny.

He served in World War II on the ship USS Pride, and married in 1941. He had lived in Highland Park for 55 years. In the last few years he spent time volunteering for Make a Wish Foundation, Lambs Farm and the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Services were held at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, Arlington Heights. Interment at Shalom Memorial Park.
