Philomena Centa Eugenia (Friedrich) McCraley
In loving memory of Philomena Centa Eugenia Friedrich McCraley
Nov.11, 1916 – Dec.11, 2008
SOUTH BEND — Mother was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, where she lived with her parents and her brother, Carl. She moved with her parents and brother to South Bend, Indiana, where she met and married Dr. William James McCraley.
She gave life and spirit to four sons, William George, Karl James, Michael Thomas and Christopher Robert. In addition to her sons, Philomena is survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was a constant mother in support of her children’s sports and activities such as a Cub Scout Den mother. She could not fry an egg, but her pies won plaudits. Additionally, Philomena was a diligent fundraiser for years for St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Christ Child Society and was an ongoing supporter of Indian Children Mission. Her letters to all her sons and their wives and children over the years number in the thousands. She has been and continues to be the ongoing glue for the McCraley family. At Regent Care she began a singing career with noted results on “High Hopes.” She enjoyed being outgoing and friendly to staff and fellow patients, and some of the handsome males with meaningful winks being exchanged.
A memorial service was held on Monday, December 15, 2008, in Reno, Nevada. Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary have been entrusted with the arrangements.
