Gwendolyn Fisher, 81, died Dec. 19, 1996. Born Nov. 6, 1915, in Warsaw, Ind., the daughter of Elmer B. and Bessie L. (Creager) Fisher, Miss Fisher lived most of her life in South Bend, Ind. She left there to attend college in North Manchester, Ind., and Peabody Library School in Nashville, Tenn. Her career as a librarian later took her to Chicago. The last 2 1/2 years she resided in a nursing home in Virginia near her sister. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include a sister, L. Eileen Thornton and five nieces, Janet E. Thornton of Portsmouth, Mrs. Jack (Sandra) Cooke of Raleigh, N.C., Beverly Granger and Linda Johnson of Celina, Ohio, and Cheryl Foster of Glen Burnie, Md. Another sister, Betty Ann Gileff, preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. The Rev. G.C. Shepherd of St. John's United Methodist Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends at 1630 Condor Ave., Norfolk. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to St. John's United Methodist Church.
