Daniel served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24D #41-23785, 345th Bomber Squadron, 98th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in St. Joseph County, Indiana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on June 27, 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Plumber and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24D #41-23785 took off from Benina Base in Libya on a bombing mission to Calabria Airdrome, Italy. After successfully dropping their bombs they collided, for an unknown reason, with B-24D #41-11806 while returning from the mission. Both planes crashed into the Mediterranean sea.

Daniel was declared "Missing In Action" in this collision during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters & the Purple Heart.
