Irene Rose (Elias) Gay

Astoria resident, 81 Irene Rose Gay, 81, of Astoria, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in Astoria. Mrs. Gay was born April 22, 1920, in South Bend, Ind., to Hungarian immigrants Regina and Emery Elias.

She married Harold Gay in San Francisco in 1945. He died in 1989. The Gays lived in Indiana, Maryland, San Francisco and Pacifica, Calif.. and in 1994. Mrs. Gay moved to Astoria to be near her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law. Diane and Dick Matthews of Astoria; two grandsons and their spouses, Greg and Shara Matthews and Brian and Stacey Matthews, all of Astoria; and two great-grandchildren, Aleks and Burke Matthews of Astoria.
