RUSHVILLE, IL - Helen E. (Dumon) Charpie, 91, of Rushville, formerly of Bloomingdale, Ill., passed away at 1:25 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2008, at Snyders Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.
She was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Moline, Ill., the daughter of the late Cyril and Clara E. (Bonsall) Dumon. She married Paul F. Charpie on April 23, 1938, in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2002.
Surviving are one daughter, Judy M. Chipman of Rushville; one son, James P. Charpie and wife Jenny of Lakeland, Fla.; four granddaughters, Laura Trendle Polus and husband James, Lisa Yarbrough and husband Barry, Deborah Eastman and Kathleen Decker and husband Brad; three great-grandchildren, Katherine Grace Polus, John Jack Polus and Samson David Decker; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Corey Alan West.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Glen Ellyn, where she was a deaconess and volunteer. She was a former member of the First Christian Church in Maywood. She was also the coordinator of the Rules of the Road program in Elmhurst.
In 1984, she was named the V.I.P. Woman of the Year in Elmhurst.
She was past president of the Maywood Twentieth Century Women's Club. For six years, she served as the president of the resident council at Snyders Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.
Private memorial services will be at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with the Rev. John E. Sowers officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Fla. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Macular Degeneration Foundation or the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Endowment Fund in Rushville.
