Arrangements for Shepard J. Crumpacker, 69, of 1925 Ribourde Drive, who died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after an illness, are being handled by Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St.
Mr. Crumpacker was former St. Joseph Superior Court judge and former 3rd District congressman.
He was born Feb. 13, 1917, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.
On Feb. 18, 1950, in Evanston, Ill., he married Marjorie Patton, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Richard O. of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and a brother, Harold C. of Valparaiso.
Friends may call until 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northern Indiana Historical Society.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Portage Lodge 675 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and the Prairie Club.

U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Northwestern University, in 1938, from the law school of the University of Michigan, in 1941, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in South Bend, Indiana. During World War II, he served as a First Lieutenant assigned to heavy-bomber maintenance in the US Army Air Corps and after his discharge in 1946, remained in the US Air Force Reserve at the rank of Major. In 1951, he elected as a Republican to the Eighty-second, Eighty-third and Eighty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1957. Not seeking re-nomination, he practiced law until 1977, when appointed judge of the St. Joseph Superior Court, serving (1977-85).
