Edward L. Cooke
June 4, 1916 - April 24, 1993
SOUTH BEND Edward L. Cooke, 76, of 1715 Southwood Ave., died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, following an illness.
Mr. Cooke retired in 1977 from Credit Bureau of South Bend after 21 years service. He was born June 4, 1916, in Chicago, and resided in this area since 1927, coming from Lansing.
On March 24, 1943, in South Bend, he married Maxine Schrader. She survives with a son, David L. of South Bend; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Bersell of Los Angeles and Leanore Muller South Bend; a brother, Harold L. of South Bend.
He graduate of Indiana University. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of China, Burma, India Veterans Association. He was a member of South Bend Central High School Alumni Association, Chamber of Commerce, South Bend Elks Club 235, Kiwanis Club, and former secretary of the local Credit Grantors Club.
A memorial service will 7 p.m. Tuesday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Cremation will take place. Friends call one hour prior to service time Tuesday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
