George R. Coker Sr.

Funeral services for George R. Coker Sr., 56, a former resident of Bryan, will be held Friday morning at the First Baptist Church here under the direction of Towns Funeral Home. Coker was executive director of the Urban League of Gary and a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was born Oct. 16, 1916, in South Bend, Ind., and received his BA degree from Talladega College and an MA from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He also attended Prairie View A&M College and Trinity University.
Survivors include his wife, the daughter of Dr. W. A. Hammond of Bryan; two sons, William Coker and George R. Coker Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Coker Ross, Miss Jewel Coker and Miss Marine Coker.
Memorials may be made to the Whiteny Young Foundation or the Coker College Fund.
