Robert B. Coen

MISHAWAKA - Robert B. Coen, 74, of Dragoon Trail, died at 9 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Coen was sales manager and sales engineer for Bendix Corp., retiring in 1977 after 23 years. Born Aug. 9, 1916 in South Bend, he lived in this area most of his life.

On March 23, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, he married Edith L. Givens. She survives, along with a daughter, Margaret Heinrich of Ann Arbor; two sons, Robert B. Jr. of Port LaVaca, Texas, and Delos E. "Buster" of South Bend; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles D. of Granger.

Mr. Coen was a member of First Presbyterian Church, South Bend, where he was a former deacon, elder, trustee and member of the Christian Education committee. He helped to found the Camp Redbud retreat center at Buchanan.

He was also a member of Kiwanis Club of South Bend and Mishawaka, Sons of American Revolution, Society of Retired Executives, and was active in the former Tri-Valley and Northern Indiana Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps. A graduate of Purdue University in 1939, he received a bachelor's degree in engineering and a master's in military science. He was a former member of the board of directors of National Bank and Trust Co. and First Interstate Bank, established by his father, Delos M. Coen.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory, Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
