Sara Jane Main, 80, 2307 W. Jefferson St., died at 4:36 p.m. Monday, March 31, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital & Health Center. On May 9, 1916, in Kokomo, she was born to Elmer R. and Elva W. (Remy) Brauchla.
On Sept. 4, 1938, in Kokomo, she married Leo N. Main; he preceded her in death April 28, 1992.
She had worked as a bookkeeper in Howard County Treasurer's and Auditor's offices until retiring in 1991. She had worked for Crosley and Delco Radio. She was a 1934 graduate of South Bend Central High School. She was a member for over 50 years of Grace United Methodist Church; J.O.Y. Sunday School and Added Grace, she directed Cherub Choir for 20 years, sang in the church choir; was past president of Rebecca Circle; she was the first honored Queen of International Rainbow Girl Bethel 20 of Jobs Daughters in Kokomo and later was Guardian of past member of Omicron Chapter Sigma 'Phi Gamma Sorority.
She was past sponsor of Brownie and Girl Scout troops in Kokomo; she was past sponsor of Sun-Nee Club of YWCA, Kokomo; past president, state president regional president for the Auxiliary to the National Association of Postal Supervisors. She was past president and state president of the Auxiliary to the National Federation of Post Office Clerks. She was an associate member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Adair and Doyle Younce, Russiaville and Anita and Stephen Mills, Kokomo; and four grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road. Pastor Charles Johnson will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
