Dorothea Hilma Davis, 98, of South Bend passed away at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, January 30th in the Memory Care Unit in the Sanctuary at S. Paul's, South Bend. She was born August 21, 1912 in Haarby, Denmark to the late Emil and Johanne (Carlson) Winther.
She married Harry C. Davis in May 1934 in Evanston, IL. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Svend and Fred Winther and sisters, Edith Lynch, Thyra Suto, and Jutta Noyes.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon C. Chapman of South Bend; her grandchildren, Robbin Chapman of Kissimmee, FL, Kim (James) Leitch of Bradenton, FL, and Eric (Sue) Chapman of Palm Harbor, FL; and great-grandchildren, Morgan, Quinn, and Brooke Chapman of Palm Harbor, FL.
Mrs. Davis worked approximately 40 years for the Anesthesiologist Group of St. Joseph's Hospital of South Bend, which included Dr. Edward Fish, Dr. John Karn, Dr. Bernard Edwards, Dr. John Graf, Dr. John Krueger, and Dr. Edwin Walker. She also partnered with her husband, Harry C. Davis in the development of the first telephone answering service of South Bend, then Michigan City, and finally Elkhart. She was a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Church in South Bend. She was a member and secretary of the National Danish Sisterhood Lodge 99. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority.
