Robert J. Smith

Word has been received of the death of Robert J. Smith, 69, of Brooksville, Fla., formerly of South Bend. He died Saturday in Lykes Memorial Hospital in Brooksville.

He was retired from the South Bend Fire Department and had served for 20 years with the South Bend YMCA. He was born on June 14, 1913, in Big Rock, Ill., and lived in South Bend for many years. moved to Florida 12 years ago.

He married Doris Keen, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gloria Walters of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Mrs. Marcia Koehler of St. Joseph, Mich., and Mrs. Linda Scott of South Bend; two sons, James R. of Superior, Wis., and Donald H. of Chicago; and seven granddaughters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Turner Funeral Homes Springhill Chapel in Springhill, Fla. with Rev. Lyman H. Kirkwood, pastor of the Springhill First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Florida Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hernando County, Fla.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise, Fla., or the United Methodist Church in Springhill.
