Sophia J. (Rapela) Kanouse

Services for Sophia J. Kanouse, 71, of 51966 E. Gatehouse Drive, South Bend, who died about 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Bubb Funeral Chapel, where a rosary will be said at 7:30.

Mrs. Kanouse was born Jan. 2, 1913, in South Bend and remained a lifetime area resident. Since 1966 she served as bookkeeper for Rosenstein and Sons of Mishawaka.

As Sophia Rapela she married Lawrence Kanouse on Oct. 16, 1935, in LaPorte. He died in 1965.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Kanouse of South Bend and Jim Kanouse of Mishawaka; two grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Dixon of South Bend; and two brothers, Wilbur Rapela and Eugene Rapela, both of South Bend.

Mrs. Kanouse was a member of Queen of Peace Church and its Rosary Society. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of St. Joseph County.
