Paul L. Palmer, 70, of 1621 Greenwood Drive, died at 12:07 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He retired in 1976 after 35 years with the South Bend Post Office. At his retirement, he was chief accountant and he was a former acting postmaster. For the last nine years he was employed at the Athletic & Convocation Center ticket office at the University of Notre Dame. Born on Aug. 28, 1912, in South Bend, he was a lifetime area resident.

On Feb. 22, 1941, in South Bend, he married the former Eleanor A. Horwath. She survives with a son, Richard L. of South Bend; two grandchildren and two brothers, Maurice Palmer and Gerald Palmer, both of South Bend.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew's Cathedral, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1167, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, Notre Dame Ushers Club, NARF, Knights of Columbus Ave Maria Council 5521 and Father J.A. Nieuwland Assembly.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society.
