SOUTH BEND — Oscar Janovsky, formerly of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, in Houston Hospice at the Texas Medical Center. He was born on August 26, 1913, in Kiev, Russia, to Isidore and Bessie (Posner) Janovsky.

On June 24, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, he married the former Marjorie Slavin. She preceded him in death on September 20, 2004, after more than 59 years of marriage.

Oscar graduated from Central High School in South Bend and served his county during WW II. He worked for many years for Feferman Cadillac-Oldsmobile as a Salesman and, later, a Sales Manager. He was involved with the United Way Campaign-Automotive Division and was Past President of the City of Hope, South Bend Chapter.

Oscar had served as Treasurer and Board Member for Temple Beth-El and belonged to B’nai B’rith.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra J. Block of Houston, Texas; his son, Michael D. Janovsky of Honomu, Hawaii; three grandchildren, Adam Block of Brooklyn, New York, Eileen Block of Atlanta, Georgia, and Stephanie Janovsky of Honomu, Hawaii; and two great-grandchildren, Batsheva Block of Brooklyn, New York, and Shoshannah Block of Brooklyn, New York.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2004, at 2 p.m.in the chapel of the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery in Mishawaka. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Oscar Janovsky to the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley; to Temple Beth-El;to Houston Hospice at the Texas Medical Center; or to a charity of choice.
