Elizabeth “Betty” (Gyorgyi) Williams
June 3, 1912 – July 11, 2010
OSCEOLA — Elizabeth “Betty” Williams, 98, formerly of Osceola, died on Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa. She was born in South Bend on June 3, 1912, to Alex and Elizabeth (Buko) Gyorgyi. Elizabeth married Herschel M. Williams in South Bend on August 31, 1932. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1999.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Richard, Louis, Joseph and Alex, and two sisters, Gazella De Craene and Irma Gyorgyi.
Mrs.Williams is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Pedler of Elkhart and Maxine Frederick of Dowagiac, MI; a son, David Williams of South Bend; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and by her brother, John Gyorgyi of South Bend.
Elizabeth was an active member of East United Methodist Church;she was a circle leader and taught Sunday School for 20 years. She had been employed with the South Bend Tribune in the Classified Sales Department for 13 years and volunteered for Meals on Wheels & Beiger Mansion. She was an avid Notre Dame fan and enjoyed the years she and Herschel lived on the river. When you met Betty you were aware of her deep religious faith.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 17, 2010, from 10-11 a.m. at East United Methodist Church, 1621 E, Third St., Mishawaka, IN 46544, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mark Zerkel officiating.
