Ruth (Egbert) Bowers

ELKHART - Ruth E. Bowers, 73, of 58192 Meadowlarke Drive, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, after an illness.
Mrs. Bowers was born July 4, 1913, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.
On Feb. 23, 1936, in Elkhart, she married Paul S. Bowers, who died Nov. 13, 1969. A son, John P. Bowers, preceded her in death Oct. 3, 1964.
Surviving are a daughter, Geanette Birr of Elkhart; a son, Jerry M. Bowers of Snowflake, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and four sisters, Nellie Snyder of Phoenix, Ariz., Kate McCormick of South Bend, Betty Ladd of Seattle, Wash., and Josephine Culp of Orlando, Fla.
She retired from GTE in 1978 as a secretary. She was a member of the Elkhart City Church of the Brethren, children's choir director of the church, a member of the Friendship Sunday School of the church and an alumna of the University of Florida. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Elkhart City Church of the Brethren will be in Prairie Street Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 p.m., Monday in StemmLawson-Peterson Funeral Home.
