Funeral Notes MAERTINS - - Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Katherine Crumpacker Maertins, 61, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of South Bend, who died Wednesday in the University Hospital, San Diego, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Martins was a science teacher at Madison Elementary School from 1935 to 1942.

She was born on March 8, 1914, in South Bend.

She graduated from Northwestern University in 1935 and in 1938 she received her master's degree from the University of Colorado.

 On Nov. 15, 1942, in Norman, Okla., she married Walter C. Maertins, who survives. Also surviving are: stepson, Robert of San Diego, and two brothers, Harold Crumpacker of Valparaiso and Shepard Crumpacker of South Bend.

The Telophase Society, San Diego, is in charge of cremation and memorial services.

Mrs. Martins was a WAVE officer during World War II and a flautist with the South Bend Symphony
