Battle Creek David S. Wass, 76, of Battle Creek, died Friday, Oct. 28, 1994, in Battle Creek Health System/Community Site where he was taken after being striken at home. He was born June 14, 1918, South Bend, Ind.
to Albert and Mildred (Edgell) Wass. He graduated from high school in South Bend and was an area resident since 1936. Mr. Wass had been employed by the Studebaker Auto Plant in South Bend, and Central Electric, Michigan Carton and Security National Bank in Battle Creek. He helped organize Union Electric Inc. and Mid-State Electric Supply Inc., serving as president of Mid-State Electric Supply from 1967 until retirement in 1988.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, 1943-45, serving aboard the USS Shubrick.
Mr. Wass was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a former member of Croation Fraternal Union and Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of American Legion Post 298. He enjoyed fishing, Notre Dame and the Chicago Cubs.
He married Caroline E. Cipcic on Sept. 7, 1940, in St. Philip Catholic Church. She survives. Also surviving are sons, Robert L. Wass of Cincinnati, Ohio, David A. Wass of Denver, Colo., and Philip R. Wass of Battle Creek; a daughter, Nancy A. Wass of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, and a brother, Dr. Richard Wass of Plymouth, Ind.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Rachael Anderson.
Visitation: 4 p.m. today at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Services: Vigil service 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, mass 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. James O'Leary officiating. Entombment: Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military committal by American Legion Post 298.
Memorials: Heart Association or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
