Margaret J. Garen, 60, of 52635 Myrtle, died at 8:30 a.m. today at home after a year's illness.

Born Oct. 11, 1916, in Yarrow, Mo., she had lived in South Bend for 55 years after coming from Missouri.

On Sept. 10, 1936, in South Bend, she married Paul E. Garen, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Doris A. Sante of South Bend; three grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. O. Dean Smith of South Bend.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Welsheimer North Chapel, 52803 U. S. 31 N., with Rev. L. Paul Harris, pastor of the Community Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Mrs. Garen was a member of the board of directors of the South Bend Camp Fire Girls and was a recipient of the Gulick Award for her work with the organization.
