Frances Sanford Koontz, 80, Lexington, wife of Monroe Koontz for over 50 years, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at her residence. Born in Owosso City, MI, she was a daughter of the late Francis Stoner and Roselyn Marion Boynton Sanford.

A member of Daughters of the King and Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, she was a graduate of St. Mary's College in South Bend, IN, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and a Donovan Scholar at the University of Kentucky. She volunteered for over ten years with Operation Read, the Lexington Public Library Book Buddies, and The Living Arts and Science Center.

She was a former chief stewardess for United Airlines, a school teacher, executive secretary for Hubachek and Kelley law firm in Chicago, and a retired executive secretary for Cablefacts/Tymshare. She was treasurer for the Audobon Society of Kentucky, and was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

Besides her husband, survivors include two daughters, Terri Lynn Koontz and Meredith S. Koontz; and two sisters, Barbara Quinn, Venice, FL, and Esther Chikar, Santa Maria, CA.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd by the Rev. Robert Sessum, the Rev. Mary Purcell, and the Rev. Michael Delk. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home.
