Richard “Dick” Rymer

September 1, 1918 – June 12, 2017

Richard “Dick” Rymer, age 98, formerly of South Bend, died peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2017. Mr. Rymer was born September 1, 1918 in Chicago, IL to the late David and Jeanette (Sturm) Rymer.
On September 2, 1945, Richard married the former Ruth Tolley. They celebrated 54 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 1999. Three sisters, Florence Morrison, Genevieve Medow and Evelyn Pollyea; and brother, Barry Rymer, also preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Roger Allen Rymer of Elkhart, IN and James Michael (Denise) Rymer of Danville, MI; and grandson, Noah Rymer of Kalamazoo, MI.

Mr. Rymer was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He proudly served our country as an Army Corporal during World War II, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He and Ruth were active members of Temple Emanuel, while residing in Grand Rapids, and an active member of Temple Beth-El in South Bend.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, with burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on behalf of Richard Rymer to Temple Beth-El.
