The shotgun death Monday afternoon of Robert H. Olund, 53. of 52064 Central Ave., has been ruled suicide by Deputy Coroner, Dr. F. Dale Nelson. Police said Olund shot himself in the head with a 12-gauge shotgun in the attic at 2116 S. Glen St., the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gustov Olund.

Officers said the force of the blast knocked the body through the ceiling into a bedroom. Olund's parents told police that Olund had been despondant over his health.

Born March 27, 1918, in South Bend, he had lived here his lifetime.

On Jan. 14, 1945, in Fort Lauderdale. Fla., he married Helene Soos, who survives, along with his parents, Mr. and' Mrs. Gustave H. of South Bend; a son, Gary H., at home; a daughter. Susan J., at home; a brother, Norman G. of Vicksburg, Va., and a sister Mrs. Eunice Daniel of Richland, Wash.

Mr. Olund was a tool and die designer.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Rev. Frank Senn, assistant pastor of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, of which Mr. Olund was a member, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mr. Olund was a member of the Independent Order of the Vikings and had served in the Air Corps during World War Il.
