Jane Naus Mayse, 88, 1225 Greencroft Drive, died at 2:19 a.m. today at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen.  She was born June 23, 1918, in South Bend, to Dr. James H. and Lydia (Mills) Naus. 

On Oct. 20, 1943, she married William Henley Mayse. He died March 17, 1997. 

She was a teacher at Parkside and Waterford elementary Schools, Goshen, for 15 years and retired in 1980. She was a graduate of DePauw University in 1940 and received her master's degree from Indiana University in 1972. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church; Beta Rho Chapter of Psi Iota XI, where she was president from 1950 to 1951; a former board and council member of Camp Fire, from which she received the Luther Halsey Gulick Award in 1965. 

She helped to establish the Goshen Adult Literacy Program and was active in the local Republican Women and Friends of the Goshen Public Library. She was honored by the Exchange Club with the Book of Golden Deeds in 1992. 

She is survived by daughters Carol Ann (David) Rhudy, Goshen, and Barbara Lee (John) MacDougall, Indianapolis; a son, Dr. William Clark Mayse, Reston, Va.; and four grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother Dr. James H. Naus Jr. 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at The Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Goshen.  The funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Pamela Kling, pastoral assistant at First United Methodist Church, Goshen, officiating. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
