Dr. Edgar C. Murphy

Dr. Edgar C. Murphy, 76, of Columbia City, Ind., formerly of South Bend, died Wednesday in his home of natural causes. Dr. Murphy retired in 1986 after 37 years of service as an optometrist in Columbia City.

He was born Aug. 22, 1918, in South Bend.

On July 12, 1971, he married Joan Morrett. She survives with a daughter, Robin G. Rolfes of California; a son, Richard D. of Fort Wayne; three stepdaughters, Diana D. Wigent, Sally J. Hare and Debra K. Stoppenhagen, all of Columbia City; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Chicago Tech College and Northern Illinois College of Optometry. He was a member of the American Optometric Association, Indiana Optometric Association, Columbia City United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, American Legion Post 98, Skirts and Square Dance Group, Auburn, Ind., and was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Columbia City. Friends may call from 2:30 to 4:30 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
