Donnabelle Marie McCormick (Hennessy)

Donnabelle Marie “Donna” McCormick Hennessy

Feb 4, 1918 - Mar 28, 1915

Donna M. Hennessy, 97, of Bloomington, formerly of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Sterling and Tarpon Springs, Florida, died Saturday (March 28, 2015) morning at Heritage Health Care in Bloomington.

Donna was born Feb. 4, 1918 in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Edward E. and Sidonia Thate McCormick. She married Donald Andrew Hennessy on Dec. 10, 1937 in South Bend. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1996.

Survivors include her five children, Gail M. Canfield, Joan K. (David) Wochner, Donald E. Hennessy, William B. (Louise) Hennessy and Timothy A. (Paula) Hennessy; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Eugene McCormick; her sisters, Dorothy Walker and Ruth Murphy; son-in-law, Michael J. Canfield and her daughter-in-law, Rosa Hennessy.

Donna had true friends, and those close to her would say she never met a stranger. While living in Canada, she volunteered at Glengarda Ursuline Academy, patterning Down syndrome children of all ages, and she was active in and past president of the Mother’s Club of Assumption High School and the Windsor Outdoor Tennis Club.

In Sterling, she was a Girl Scout leader. Donna was a loyal supporter of Newman Catholic High School, where her husband was athletic director, coach and teacher. Donna “mothered and often fed” her husband’s athletes. Here in Bloomington, she volunteered at OSF St. Joseph Hospital in the surgical waiting room, and she made wonderful friends at the YWCA in the water aerobic group.
