Mary E. (Mason) Hesiben

SOUTH BEND Mary Elizabeth Hesiben, 77, of 401 Corby Blvd., died at 10:15 Rm. Sunday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mrs. Hesiben retired from the city of South Bend as school crossing-guard captain. She also retired as minister of music at Pilgrim Baptist Church. She was born Jan. 29 , 1918 in Anderson, Ind.
On Sept. 9, 1935, in South Bend, she married Ulysses Hesiben. He died Sept. 22, 1994.
Surviving are three daughters, LeVerna Jean Caldwell of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Rosalie Boulware of Las Vegas, and Eunice Mae Pope of Marrietta, Ga.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ida Pompey of Las Vegas.
She was a member of the church and Vera Gannaway Circle of the church, the Wabash Assembly No. 65 of Golden Circle and the Samaritan Charity Club.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Alford's Mortuary, where the Golden Circle will conduct a service at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pilgrim Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
