Christine L. (Lentsch) Kaczmarek
June 18, 1918 – March 4, 2004
Christine L. Kaczmarek, 85, of East Marion Street, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Douglas Street, passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, in the Milton Home.
She was born on June 18, 1918, in South Bend, to Mathias and Mary (Heffner) Lentsch, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Larson, Marie Rammer and Magdalyn Olczak; and brothers, Stephen Lentsch, Matthew Lentsch and Martin Lentsch.
On May 31, 1943, in South Bend, Christine married Marion A. Kaczmarek, who passed away on Nov.25, 1995.
Surviving Christine is a daughter, Maria Kaczmarek of South Bend; sons, Kenneth (Linda) Kaczmarek of Bloomington, Ind., and Mark Kaczmarek of South Bend; grandchildren, Derek (Katrina) Kaczmarek of Evansville, Ind., Kevin Kaczmarek of New York City and Kimberly Kaczmarek of Washington, D.C., Matthew, Zachary and Michael Kaczmarek, all of South Bend; and a great-grandchild, McKinley Kaczmarek.
Christine worked in the family business, Lentsch’s Bakery, and with her husband in the family owned business, Marion’s Hide-A-Way. She graduated from South Bend Central High School and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo. She was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church where she was a room mother in the school. Christine was a Boy Scout den mother, a Camp Fire leader, a member of the German Club, Daughters of Isabella and the South Side Democratic Club.
Visitation will be today, March 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 8, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
