Staff Sergt. Jack H. Lang

JACK H. LANG. Due for discharge this month, Staff Sergt. Jack H. Lang, aged 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Lang, 901 Allen street, died in son, England of diphtheria on Jan. 22, while there on a furlough, according to word received from the war department.
He entered the army on Oct. 13, 1942, going to Camp Croft, S. C. From there he was sent to Washington-Jefferson college, Washington, Pa., for a special course in interviewing and classification work. From there he was assigned to Camp Blanding, Fla., where he was connected with headquarters company, interviewing and classifying trainees as they came into the camp.
In August, 1944, he was sent overseas, where he served in France Germany, continuing the work in headquarters compagergt. Lang was born in South Bend Feb. 23, 1919. He was graduated from Central High school in 1936. He had been active in Boy Scout work, attaining the rank of Eagle scout.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran church. He is survived by his parents, brother, Richard J. Lang, machinists' mate third class, now serving with the navy on a troop carrier in the Pacific area
