AUGUST 16, 1918 – JANUARY 4, 2013

George E. Hoopinganer, 94, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2013 in Houston, TX. He was born on August 16, 1918 in Berrien Springs, Michigan to Etna L. Van Vleet Hoopingarner and Charles E. Hoopingarner. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Hazel Fender Hoopingarner; his children, Dr. Charles E. Hoopingarner (Gayla), Marcia Hoopingarner Beach, Mark E. Hubert (Pat), Nancy H. Boyd (Owen), Cheryl H. Wilson (Doug); thirteen grandchildren Heather, Chad, Blake, Margie, Matt, Cindy, Diane, Kristen, Sarah, Rachel, Michael, James and Stephen; and nine great grandchildren. The special loving relationship between George and Hazel was a great inspiration to all family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vernamae Holmes Hoopingarner and his brother, Robert Van Hoopingarner. George’s early childhood was in Berrien Springs, and he moved to South Bend at an early age.

He graduated from South Bend Central High School in South Bend, Indiana, and Tri-State University.

He excelled in his work for General Electric as an Engineer in upper management. He worked at G.E. his entire career. George was active in Rotary and various church activities at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. George showed his love of the Lord in various ways, especially when he and Hazel were involved in the Stephens Ministry at Chapelwood. He loved music, playing the violin and organ. He liked bowling and model trains, but his real passion was golf. This was evident by anyone who saw the awards and trophies filling his study. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer at 2:00 PM, with Scott Endress, officiating.
