Wilma J. (Gaines) Dorsey
April 23, 1918 - June 9, 2005
Wilma Jeanne Dorsey was born on April 23, 1918 in south Bend, Ind. to Oscar and Mary Ann Gaines. She passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday June 9 in St. Joseph Care Center West.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Alice Coldman, Lucille Boyd, Theresase Aldridge and Catherine Williams and a brother, Oscar Raymond Jr. Wilma is survived by three sisters, Naomi Miller, MaryJane Carter and Margaret Abram , all of St. Louis, Mo.; and by two brothers, William and Robert Gaines (AlbertaWinnie) of South Bend.
Wilma was a life-long member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, and as a member of the Pastor's Aid., Altar Guild, and Missionary Society.
On Nov. 14, 1941 in South Bend she was united in marriage to Conneree Dorsey, who preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1993.
In addition to her sisters and brothers she leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews including three special nieces, Dianna Edwards and Susan Wilson of St. Louis and Nicole Gaines-Nagode of Seattle, Was. Also left to mourn are two very special nieces, Gloria Jones and May Katherine Ivory (Johnny), who were her care givers in her last years. Wilma also leaves to mourn a life-long friend and sister-in-law, Ensie Mae Lowery) Aaron) as well as another dear friend, Gladys Sirgham.
Wilma worked at Kmart for 30 years. She was one of the first to be hired when Kreskee reorganized to form KMart
