Frank S. Farkas, 90, died on Thursday, December 11, at Good Samaritan Village. Visitation will begin on Monday, December 15th at Miller Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm with a Masonic service at 7:00pm. Burial will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 16th at Hills of Rest with a memorial service following at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to the Shrine Transportation Fund or to First United Methodist Church.

Frank was born on July 19, 1918 in South Bend, Indiana to Frank and Mary (Fleischacker) Farkas. He grew up and attended school in South Bend, graduating in 1936 from Central Senior High. In 1942 he graduated from Purdue University, a die hard Boilermaker. January 31, 1942 he married the love of his life, Betty Thornburg and they shared 57 special years before her death in 1999. Another major event in 1942 for Frank was entering into service in the Army until 1945. He proudly served overseas in World War II and after being discharged stayed in the Army Reserves for 28 years attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel.

A mechanical engineer, they lived and worked in Sioux City for several years before moving to Sioux Falls in 1952. He became co-owner of Shamrock Systems, Inc. from 1958 until he retired in 1982. A member of First United Methodist church since 1959, he served on many committees. He was a founding member of Westward Ho Country Club, served on the board and was also club golf champion. He was very active in Cub and Boy Scouts, PTA, United Way, VFW, American Legion, El Riad Shrine, Scottish Rite, and Trinity Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the American Society of Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Engineers, President of the Master Plumbers Association, Past President of the Mechanical Contractors Association, Reserves Officers Assoc., Retired Officers Assoc., and a proud member of the C.O.F. Club. He also enjoyed golf, bowling, swimming, fast pitch softball and baseball. Most important he was a family man, a good husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Kris (George) Meyn, Cardiff, MD, Frank (Pamela) Farkas, Spokane, WA, Linda (Orin) Ellwein, Sioux Falls, and Kelly (Steve) Larson, Evergreen, CO; six grandchildren, Stacy Meyn, Amy (Dave) Ingalls, Kate Farkas, Leah Farkas, Stephen Ellwein, Bethany (Eric) Ellwein Stokka; three greatgrandchildren, Clayton Stokka, Ethan and Emma Ingalls and other family and friends.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents and two sisters
