SOUTH BEND There will be no services or visitation for C. Joseph Barber, 78, of Jewell Avenue, who died early Monday in his home. Cremation will take place, with burial in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. McGann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Barber retired in 1975 from Bendix Corp. as a machinist for more than 40 years.

He was born Nov. 11, 1917, in Detroit. On April 26, 1941, in South Bend, he married Alberta Cook. She survives with a daughter, Andrea Blades of Park Forest, Ill.; and a sister, Jane Wilson of Wheaton, Ill.

He served in the Indiana General Assembly from 1964-72. He was a member of United Auto Workers Bendix Local 9, Sierra Club, Toastmasters, Howard Park Bridge Club, treasurer of Forest Park Association, participated in the watercolor group of St. Joseph County Public Library's Roger Francis Branch, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
