JOHN D. (JACK) ARMSTRONG

1918-2010 John D. (Jack) Armstrong, 92, died December 14, 2010, in King City, Missouri. He was born October 22, 1918, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; lived in Palmyra, New Jersey, Montreal, Quebec, Canada and South Bend, Indiana, graduating from Central High School in South Bend in 1936 and Depauw University, Greencastle, Indiana in 1940.

His career was in the professional service, Boy Scouts of America, serving in Kansas City, Missouri; Waterloo, Iowa, and Greeley, Colorado, later as Regional Executive in Kansas City, Missouri, and a member of the national staff, New Brunswick, New Jersey.

He served in the U.S. Army, the armored Division, 1942-45, retiring as Staff Sergeant, earning a Bronze Star and six battle stars.

He was married to Elizabeth (Libby) Horine in 1941. There were four children: Daniel (deceased), David, Loveland, Colorado, Thomas, United Arab Emirates, and Nancy McMillan, King City, Missouri; 9 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. Upon retirement from the BSA he was National President of American Humanics, based in Kansas City and later directing the program at Arizona State University, Tempe.

No public memorial service was held. Memorial gifts to: American Humanics, 1100 Walnut, Suite 1900, Kansas City, Missouri 64106. Care provided by Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
