Robert C. Whiteman, 54, died Sunday in Los Angeles following a twoyear illness. Whiteman was a South Bend resident until two years ago. He was employed as a bank examiner for the state of Indiana. Whiteman was born on June, 28, 1924, in South Bend.

Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Sherman of Los Angeles; two sons, James and Carl, both of Spokane, Wash.; three grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Faie Whiteman, and three sisters, Joan Orr of Indianapolis, Eunice Bright and Carolyn Klimek, both of South Bend.

Whiteman served in World War II and the Korean Conflict with the Air Force. He was a member of the Masons.

Services will be at a later date in California.
