Mary Ellen Stegman Simon

Mary Ellen Simon of Frankenmuth, Michigan, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Covenant Healthcare Harrison, after a lengthy illness; age 90 years. Mary Ellen Stegman was born on November 8, 1924 in South Bend, IN to the late Edward (Ruth) Stegman. She was married to Elmer “Pete” Simon on June 15, 1946 for 65 years; he predeceased her. Mary Ellen was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, Valparaiso University Guild, St. Lorenz Missionary Guild, Frankenmuth Women’s Club, Bridgeport Country Club, Saginaw Co. Lawyer’s Wives Auxiliary, and the St. Lorenz Sr. Mixed Choir.

Surviving are; three children, David (Nancy) Simon of Alma, MI, John (Louise Ann) Simon of South Lake Tahoe, CA, Elizabeth (Steve) VanDeVelde of Crested Butte, CO; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Erin) Simon, Rachel (John) Nemeth, Julie Crandall, Leah Simon, Derek Simon, Sam VanDeVelde, Sara (Jake) Sadd; six great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Stegman Jr.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Gary Bender will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Mary Ellen’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Foundation or the Wickson Memorial Library.
