Myrtle Louise Nutting Marquis

Myrtle L. Marquis, 88, residing in South Bend, Indiana passed away at 1:55 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Center for Hospice, South Bend.

Myrtle was born on May 1, 1924 in South Bend to the late Lewis and Addie (Kelly) Nutting and has lived most of her life in the South Bend area. She is part of the South Bend Central High School graduating class of 1942.

On November 23, 1952 in Loree, IN she was united in marriage to Charles Albert Marquis, who preceded her in death on July 16, 2003. Charles and Myrtle were married for 50 years. Myrtle was a legal secretary at Barnes and Thornburg for 29 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Brethren Church of South Bend where she served on the Deacons Board and was actively involved in the Women's Missionary Society. Myrtle was known for her meticulous attention to detail in both her personal and professional life. Myrtle lived God, family and life. In these last years even as Alzheimer's robbed her memories, she was able to offer expressions of love to those who cared for her through smiles, hand holding and her wonderful laugh. We will remember her for the strong faith filled child of God that she was and the woman who smiled when most people would have been overtaken by tears. The family would like to thank the staff of Ironwood Rehab/Nursing Center and Hospice of St. Joseph County for the loving and skilled care provided to Myrtle during her illness and passing.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Shirlee J. (Richard) Conserriere of Kennewick, WA; four grandchildren, Aaron K.(Kristina) Wright, John M. (Casey) Conserriere, Amy McMurdo, and Emily (Mark) Conserriere; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Lou Moore of Mesa, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Addie Nutting; husband, Charles A. Marguis; son, Larry K.
